I didn't know what I
would find, down here by the river.
My shooting for the morning was
essentially done. I had worked my
plan and had some time to kill
before the workshop sessions started.
So I drove up to the famous bridge but
instead of walking out on the bridge I
climbed down the steep slopes to the
river's edge. I snapped a few
shots of the Watchman and still had a
bit more time to kill. So I made
it to the other side of the bridge.
Like I said, I had no
idea of what I would find. The
towering red and white walls were bathed
in the morning sun but it was still cool
down by the river. The water
hissed by. Slowly and calmly I
explored the river bank, feeling a sense
of peace. And just as slowly and
subtly this scene arrange itself before
me - a little to the right, now a little
back, oops, too much, down a little, and
it all came together.
The light was striking
but very difficult, so I took my time.
All elements in the scene had to be
perfectly still but accompanying
the water was a lazy breeze gently
drifting downstream. If the
cottonwood next to me was still the one
across the way was fluttering.
There were many false attempts but the
scene felt worth the time and patience.
Minutes went by. Then for five
seconds all was still and that was all I
needed. Click - click - click and
the flawless moment was captured.
