Bryce Canyon Hoodoos (2016)
Like other national parks, Bryce Canyon is beautiful and majestic, a treasure, but in its own way. Mountains and forests and desert valleys are created with broad brush strokes of beauty. But Bryce Canyon is carved from the brilliantly colored Paunsaugunt Plateau creating a wild, chaotic landscape of astonishing detail.
The chaos is fantastic for the grand landscape. But it makes the intimate landscape difficult. One of the challenges (and thrills) we face as landscape photographers is finding rectangles of order in the chaos. It doesn’t matter if it’s the grand or the intimate landscape. When it all comes together and you feel the unity and balance, it’s an exciting moment.
