Petrified Dunes 3 (2015)
Laid down during Jurassic times when dinosaurs ruled the earth, the sand dunes that make up the Navajo sandstone covered hundreds of square miles with fine grained sand up to a half mile thick. The winds that blew across the dunes created cross-bedding that is not visible from the surface. But cover the dunes with sediment, soak them in shallow seas so that the loose sand is transformed into petrified dunes, lift them up and erode away everything that hides them and you have fascinating abstract patterns and colors that quicken your imagination. Fascinating!
