Marksburg Castle (2010)
River Rhein, Germany
Marksburg stands high on a craig above the town
of Braubach. It is the only fully
preserved Mediaeval fortress on the Rhein.
From 1180 it was owned successively by the Lords
of Eppstein, the Counts of Katzenelnbogen and
the Landgraves of Hesse (1479). In 1866 it
fell to the Prussians. In 1899 Kaiser
Wilhelm II presented the castle to the
"Association for the Preservation of German
Castles." Today fascinating tours will
lead you through the castle and give you a
fascinating taste of Mediaeval life.
