Burg Maus (2010)
River Rhein, Germany
Construction was started by the Trier Electors
on what was to be the castle above the town of
Wellmich in 1353 and continued for more than 30
years. The nearby Counts of Katzenelnbogen
joked that this castle was the mouse that would
be eaten by the cat. The name stuck.
Today it has been faithfully restored and is one
of the finest examples of a fortified building
along the Rhein.
