The last thing you expect to see in the desert is a plentiful pond such as this. It is a place where the bighorn sheep come down from their unreachable rocky citadels to graze on the fresh green grass and relish the cool water. But the pond refreshes more than a thirsty mouth. It is a source of nourishment for the eye and sustenance for the soul. Fleeting moments of beauty, some of them exquisite, come and go as the sun makes its way across the sky. The pond, created by a local rancher to catch water for his cattle, continues to bring joy to man and beast alike, long after the cattle are gone.
