Ocotillo Dawn (2007)
“Let’s meet in the visitor center parking lot tomorrow morning at 5:15.” That was the arrangement three of us photographers made the evening before. We were showing our works at the annual Joshua Tree Art Festive and I wasn’t about to miss a sunrise being this close to the park. As it turned out 5:15 was just a little bit too late because there was a fair distance to drive. We should have met a half hour earlier. But it worked out just fine. We arrived at Ocotillo Patch before the sun made his appearance above the Pinto Mountains. Morning is definitely my time of day. Mother earth has refreshed herself during the night and everything is pristine and serene. The waxing crescent moon stood in sharp contrast against the still dark morning sky. Soon the sun would flood the land with wonderful, welcome golden light. But for a few more moments the earth is still peaceful with the gentle morning breezes gently swaying the delicate ocotillo branches.
