Last night marked two months since the fire came through our ‘back yard.’  Since then we’ve had about four inches of rain.  In fact, there was more rain in one storm than all of last year.  As a result the scorched hills are starting to turn green.  We’ve seen crop duster planes flying over the foothills and mountains seeding the slopes to help control erosion.

Last night’s sunset was spectacular!

We had two days of moderate wind so the smog was blown way out over the Pacific and not much dust was kicked up.  The setting sun was fire red and lit up the hills.  It only lasted a brief four or five minutes.  I ran upstairs, grabbed my camera and tripod and ran into the back yard.  I charged down the slope a ways, not bothering to put on decent shoes.  Up went the tripod and on went the camera.  There was only time to get off five shots and the light was gone.

Here’s one of the shots.

Fiery Sunset

The toyon bushes were stressed by the fire which caused their leaves to turn a reddish brown.  Green grass is coming up in abundance.  The fire red sun cast a eerily reminiscent light on the scene.  Nevertheless, it was beautiful.
