{"id":137,"date":"2008-05-22T06:05:46","date_gmt":"2008-05-22T14:05:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/?p=137"},"modified":"2019-11-08T08:59:02","modified_gmt":"2019-11-08T16:59:02","slug":"genuine-fractals-impressions-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/2008\/05\/22\/genuine-fractals-impressions-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Genuine Fractals Impressions #4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just ran another test on Genuine Fractals.\u00a0 Here it is.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m working on an image for the Orange County Fair and I want to blow it up to 16X24.\u00a0 It is <a href=\"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/american-southwest\/content\/kolob-terrace-2007_large.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kolob Terrace <\/a>taken with my 10D last year in Zion so the image size is 3072X2048 or 6 M pixels.<\/p>\n<p>I use Image Print to make my prints on my Epson Stylus Pro 4800.\u00a0 Image Print likes to print at two PPI settings &#8211; 180 and 360.\u00a0 So here is the question: Can I get the same degree of sharpness with Genuine Fractals at 360 PPI as I can get with 180 PPI?<\/p>\n<p><strong><!--more-->First the 180 PPI Test<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At 180 PPI the image is increased by about 200% to 4320X2880.\u00a0 After up-sizing the image I applied the Photokit output sharpener for matte paper at 180 PPI.\u00a0 The results were stunning.\u00a0 Sorry I can&#8217;t show them to you because on the web the resolution is only 72 PPI.\u00a0 But suffice it to say the cry grass in the foreground is razor sharp.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next the 360 Test<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At 360 PPI the resolution is 8640X5760 for an increase of nearly 800%.\u00a0 The up-sized image was again sharpened with the Photokit sharpener for matte paper, this time\u00a0at 360 PPI.\u00a0 The results, while still impressive, were a bit softer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>OnOne claims Genuine Fractals can increase the image size by 800% and it certainly can with impressive results.\u00a0 However, the 200% image up-sizing was noticeably sharper.\u00a0 Now, in all fairness, it&#8217;s a bit crazy to try to push a 6 M pixel image up to 16X24 but with Genuine Fractals it certainly can be done.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Story Continues &#8211; more experiences with Genuine Fractals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/2009\/01\/19\/180-or-360-dpi\/\">180 or 360<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bawpvc-ajax-counter\" data-id=\"137\"> (1638)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just ran another test on Genuine Fractals.\u00a0 Here it is.
