{"id":170,"date":"2008-09-06T20:57:45","date_gmt":"2008-09-07T04:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/?p=170"},"modified":"2008-09-06T20:57:45","modified_gmt":"2008-09-07T04:57:45","slug":"the-politics-of-the-nature-photographer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/2008\/09\/06\/the-politics-of-the-nature-photographer\/","title":{"rendered":"The Politics of the Nature Photographer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two weeks of political conventions have left me feeling a bit nauseous.\u00a0 But, as a nature photographer,\u00a0some things political have become clearer.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of drilling for more domestic oil, why can&#8217;t our country embark on the environmental equivalent to the Manhattan project or the Apollo mission to develop alternative energy sources?\u00a0 Instead of weaning ourselves from foreign oil why don&#8217;t we wean ourselves from oil in general at least to the maximum extent possible (haven&#8217;t seen a solar powered 747 yet).\u00a0 If we can put a man on the moon in ten years is there any reason our great country can&#8217;t lead the world to alternative energy?\u00a0 If we don&#8217;t, we&#8217;ll be giving up leadership to some other country.\u00a0 Wouldn&#8217;t it be hilarious if that country was China.<\/p>\n<p>One last thought &#8211; can you imaging the nature photographer overlooking a grand vista at sunset in Utah and exclaiming, &#8220;Oh man, this is amazing!\u00a0 Won&#8217;t this make a stunning strip mine?&#8221;\u00a0 One thing about the natural beauty we so enjoy is that it takes constant vigilance to preserve it.\u00a0 One lapsed moment to greed and it&#8217;s gone forever.<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts from a self-confessed tree hugger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bawpvc-ajax-counter\" data-id=\"170\"> (1289)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two weeks of political conventions have left me feeling a bit nauseous.\u00a0 But, as a nature photographer,\u00a0some things political have become clearer.
