{"id":647,"date":"2009-10-21T21:00:53","date_gmt":"2009-10-22T05:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/2009\/10\/21\/kodachrome-basin-state-park-utah\/"},"modified":"2019-11-18T20:21:22","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T04:21:22","slug":"kodachrome-basin-state-park-utah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/2009\/10\/21\/kodachrome-basin-state-park-utah\/","title":{"rendered":"Kodachrome Basin State Park, Utah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I took a side trip to Kodachrome Basin State Park this afternoon.\u00a0 What a cool place.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/IMG_0250.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;\" title=\"(c) 2009 by Ralph Nordstrom\" src=\"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/IMG_0250_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"(c) 2009 by Ralph Nordstrom\" width=\"268\" height=\"208\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The park is famous for it\u2019s columns of cemented sandstone that stretch in come cases hundreds of feet into the air.\u00a0 Geologists believe that they were once hot springs like those in Yellowstone and that they cooled off and filled with sediment.\u00a0 Then the earth around them eroded, leaving them standing there.\u00a0 They call them \u2018sand pipes\u2019 and the park has over sixty of them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/IMG_0291.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;\" title=\"(c) 2009 by Ralph Nordstrom\" src=\"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/IMG_0291_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"(c) 2009 by Ralph Nordstrom\" width=\"204\" height=\"264\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Besides the sand pipes there are other red formations that jut from the desert floor.\u00a0 The combination makes for some very interesting forms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/IMG_0272.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;\" title=\"(c) 2009 by Ralph Nordstrom\" src=\"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/IMG_0272_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"(c) 2009 by Ralph Nordstrom\" width=\"264\" height=\"204\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are some great hiking trails in the park.\u00a0 I took time for the Sentinel and Shakespeare Arch trail.\u00a0 The trail was refreshingly primitive, not the kind of heavily manicured ones you see in the national parks.\u00a0 There were a couple of places where you had to watch your step and you also had to pay attention or you might have gotten lost.\u00a0 Like I said, it was very refreshing.\u00a0 You had a feeling of being closer to the countryside.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/IMG_0266.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;\" title=\"(c) 2009 by Ralph Nordstrom\" src=\"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/IMG_0266_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"(c) 2009 by Ralph Nordstrom\" width=\"204\" height=\"264\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They have a super nice campground.\u00a0 It\u2019s extremely well cared for and situated among some juniper trees with a few cotton woods thrown in for good measure.
