Zion National Park in Southwest Utah has a sundown tradition amongst photographers of all kinds.\u00a0 We gather on the bridge over the Virgin River in hopes of being there for one of those spectacular sunsets that can only be viewed here.<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t always happen.\u00a0 But the ritual continues.\u00a0 About two hours before sunset we start assembling.\u00a0 Talk to your fellow photographers and you\u2019ll likely find people from around the world.\u00a0 Or, someone from your own back yard.<\/p>\n

Soon the crowd builds and begins to spread out across the bridge, jockeying for the best locations.\u00a0 So we tend to bunch up around the premium spots.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re all intent on watching the light, hoping that this is the time we\u2019ll all go home with a masterpiece.\u00a0 Conversation is casual.\u00a0 The subjects range from wondering if the clouds will pop, if the sun will duck underneath them and ignite the Watchman.\u00a0 Questions of where we are from and what we do are also common place.<\/p>\n

Friends meet on the bridge and new friendships are made.<\/p>\n

A pretty much constant stream of people arrive.\u00a0 Some see there isn\u2019t any more space, give up and head for dinner.\u00a0 Others have their own unique solution to the crowding.<\/p>\n

\"(c)<\/a>Some may disparage these \u2018gatherings\u2019 and lament the lost of the solitary experience and the communion with nature.\u00a0 Some may make snide remarks about creativity.\u00a0 Some may think it\u2019s just plain silly.\u00a0 For me, I love to see strangers from all over the world, all walks of life, all races and backgrounds gather together at the end of the day to share in one of the wonders of our Mother Earth.<\/p>\n
