{"id":785,"date":"2009-11-27T07:18:38","date_gmt":"2009-11-27T15:18:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/2009\/11\/27\/why-i-attend-workshops\/"},"modified":"2018-09-09T19:14:37","modified_gmt":"2018-09-10T03:14:37","slug":"why-i-attend-workshops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/wordpress\/2009\/11\/27\/why-i-attend-workshops\/","title":{"rendered":"Why I Attend Workshops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m a professional nature photographer.\u00a0 I not only take and sell photographs\u00a0 but also conduct workshops in some beautiful locations around our world.\u00a0 Admittedly I\u2019m relatively new to the business and am not one of the big names of outdoor photography &#8211; yet.\u00a0 But I have a loyal following that continues to grow.<\/p>\n<p>Like I said, I lead workshops, both on my own and teamed up with other great photographers.\u00a0 I believe my workshops have a lot to offer photographers of all skill levels from novices and amateurs to professionals.\u00a0 And our attendees confirm that with their comments.<\/p>\n<p>First of all, we get to great locations and we photograph them in the best light.\u00a0 Location and light are the two most critical elements for exceptional outdoor photography.<\/p>\n<p>Second, we provide lots of one-on-one attention.\u00a0 The primary reason most attendees sign up for workshops is they want to become better photographers.\u00a0 So we really focus on working individually with each photographer on the areas in which they want (and need) to grow.\u00a0 I say \u2018need\u2019 because often the attendees don\u2019t have a clear idea of what areas to focus on and we can help with that.<\/p>\n<p>Third, my partners and I have our own unique personal styles of photography that we share with our attendees, both overtly and in more subtle ways.\u00a0 If an attendee knows our work, presumably they like it and may want to learn how to do what we do for themselves.<\/p>\n<p>So, with all that by way of introduction, that\u2019s why I attend workshops.\u00a0 I can photograph unfamiliar areas of our earth with someone who is intimate with the location, its best views and light.\u00a0 Second, I may feel pretty comfortable with my technical and creative skills but, let\u2019s face it, there\u2019s always more to learn.\u00a0 Happily, it\u2019s a never ending process.\u00a0 Thirdly, the workshop instructor\u2019s personal style is just that \u2013 personal, unique to that individual.\u00a0 Working with them for three to five days is a wonderful way to absorb some of their magic and stretch my own personal style.\u00a0 After all, simply put, our personal styles are our means by which we express yourselves through our art.\u00a0 It is something that is growing all the time.\u00a0 Working with other skilled photographers just helps it grow faster.<\/p>\n<p>To sum it all up, life is too short and there\u2019s too much to learn.\u00a0 I could approach photography on a do-it-yourself basis and grow by trial and error.\u00a0 And while I never stop exploring and discovering new things on my own, it\u2019s slow.\u00a0 Or I can accelerate the learning process and work with other photographers whom I admire.\u00a0 They have a lot to offer and workshops with them gives me the chance to soak up as much as I possibly can in a short, concentrated period of time.\u00a0 And, I get some great photographs.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/workshops\/workshop_home_page.html\" href=\"http:\/\/ralphnordstromphotography.com\/workshops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Join me on an upcoming workshop.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/RalphNordstromPhotography.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">To see more of my photographs click here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Ralph-Nordstrom-Photography\/112254382772\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Ralph-Nordstrom-Photography\/112254382772\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Become a fan on Facebook and follow along.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"bawpvc-ajax-counter\" data-id=\"785\"> (990)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Life is too short and there\u2019s too much to learn.
